The 40th anniversary of Kinhaven School in Arlington was honored Sept. 29 with the presentation by Del. Patrick Hope (D-47th), who brought along a General Assembly joint resolution honoring the institution’s work.

The school, located in Ballston, “has made such a big difference in the lives of our young people,” Hope said. The parents, teachers and assistants have “created a nurturing atmosphere where young children go on to be successful in their future educational endeavors.”

Organized in 1971 by a group of parents seeking opportunities for their young children to socialize, Kinhaven has grown into a school for students ages 1 to 5, with parents taking an active role in the early development of their children.

“We strongly believe that parents are the first and most influential educators,” said Amy Hitchcock, the school’s director.

As part of the commemorative ceremonies, a fall festival will be held on Oct. 16.
