Broad Array of Advocates Urge Uniform Standards for the Restraint of Pregnant Inmates

Richmond – Yesterday a Press Conference was held at the General Assembly where a diverse coalition representing faith based organizations, women's rights advocates, and prison reform groups stood with Delegate Patrick Hope (D-47) and Delegate Jim LeMunyon (R-67) in support of HB 836 which should be heard later this week in subcommittee.

Joining Delegates Hope and LeMunyon were representatives from ACLU-VA, Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, The Family Foundation, Prison Fellowship, Virginia Council of Churches, Planned Parenthood, NARAL-VA, Virginia CURE, and the National Religious Campaign Against Torture.

Patrick A. Hope is a Member of the Virginia General Assembly as the Delegate from the 47th District representing part of Arlington County. He serves on the Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee and House Health, Welfare, and Institutions Committee.
