Delegate Patrick Hope Recognized with "Partner Award" for Expanding Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities Print

September 21, 2012

For Immediate Release

Arlington – On September 20, 2012, Delegate Patrick A. Hope (D-Arlington) received the Linden Resources “Partner Award” for the passage of his legislation, HB 1222, that strengthens Employment Service Organizations ability to contract with local and state government, which will lead to expanding employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Linden Resources was founded in 1959 as The Sheltered Occupational Center of Northern Virginia, Inc. (or SOC Enterprises) by a group of Northern Virginia parents seeking jobs for their adult children with disabilities.  Since its founding, Linden has grown to employ, provide job placement and other innovative services and programs to more than 270 individuals each year.

Linda Chandler, CEO of Linden Resources, said that, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to publicly thank these individuals and organizations for the valuable service and contributions that they have made in the lives of people with disabilities and their families. We are especially appreciative of Delegate Hope, who, earlier this year, championed legislation that will expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities across the Commonwealth and we look forward to working with him to further enhance those opportunities.”

The new law, which went into effect July 1, broadens commercial lines of business for Employment Service Organizations – like Linden – that will lead to the creation of more job opportunities and increased wages for Virginians with disabilities.

Delegate Hope said, "This recognition is of particular significance to me.  Virginia has been put in a circumstance of having to put more resources toward helping people with disabilities find housing in their communities, expand coverage and access to medical care, and create more employment opportunities for Virginians with disabilities.  This new law helps create “a level playing field” in pursuit of creating more jobs for people with disabilities and could not be more honored for this recognition.”

Patrick A. Hope is a Member of the Virginia General Assembly as the Delegate from the 47th District representing part of Arlington County.  He serves on the Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee and House Health, Welfare, and Institutions Committee.
