Sun Gazette: Hope bill in support of free clinics left behind Print

Created:  Wednesday, February 11, 2015 12:00PM

A measure by Del. Patrick Hope giving a tax break to non-profit medical clinics serving the needy is a goner in the 2015 General Assembly session.

The measure was left behind Feb. 10 when the House of Delegates finished work on its bills prior to crossover with the state Senate. It would have provided exemption from local real-estate taxes for qualifying clinics that provide health-care services at no cost to the indigent in their communities.

The measure had been sent to a subcommittee of the House Committee on Privileges and Elections, but no action was taken.

Among the institutions that would have benefited from the measure was the Arlington Free Clinic.
