Delegate Patrick Hope to Receive NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia's "Aggie Wolf Defender of Choice Award"

Arlington - On Thursday, May 28th, NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia is hosting its 5th annual Power of Choice celebration and awards presentation. The 2015 "Aggie Wolf Defender of Choice Award" honoree is Delegate Patrick Hope (D-Arlington).

During the 2015 session, Delegate Hope successfully advocated for compensation for victims of forced sterilization in Virginia, as well as introduced a 'Bad Bosses Bill' to prohibit employers from discriminating against employees based on their reproductive health care decisions. In past years, Hope has introduced legislation to repeal targeted regulation of abortion providers (TRAP), and has been a leader in helping to end the unnecessary shackling of pregnant and birthing inmates in Virginia prisons.

Delegate Hope said, "As the father of three daughters, gender equality and the freedom to make one's own reproductive health care decisions is now personal to me. I'm especially honored to receive an award named after someone I knew personally and admired so greatly." Delegate Hope added, "I'm committed to continuing the work of Aggie Wolf and others like her so that my daughters will grow up in a world that respects women and their rights to make her own personal health care decisions."

"We are thrilled to present Delegate Patrick Hope with our Aggie Wolf Defender of Choice Award," said Tarina Keene, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia. "Delegate Hope has worked tirelessly in support of reproductive freedom throughout his career in the Virginia House, and we are so thankful for his leadership on behalf of the Commonwealth's women and families. It is clear that Delegate Hope is a true pro-choice champion, and we are proud to honor him with this award."

The Power of Choice event will be at the CEB Waterview Conference Center at 1919 N. Lynn Street in the Rosslyn-area of Arlington. The keynote speaker will be Virginia Lieutenant Governor, Ralph Northam. Tickets can be purchased on the www.naralva.org website.

Patrick A. Hope is a Member of the Virginia General Assembly as the Delegate from the 47th District representing part of Arlington County.  He serves on the House Health, Welfare, and Institutions, Courts of Justice, and Militia, Police and Public Safety Committees.
