Prevention

The prevention of gun violence in our communities and in our Commonwealth is of the upmost importance to me as a legislator and as a father.
As Chair of the House Public and Safety Committee I am committed to continue to expand on the progress we have made in Virginia. In the last year the House Public Health and Safety Committee has passed bills to:
-
Pass universal background checks.
-
Enact an extreme risk protective order, allowing law enforcement to temporarily confiscate firearms from individuals deemed at risk to themselves or others.
-
One-handgun-a-month law.
-
Required gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms.
-
Strengthened penalties for leaving an unsecured firearm that endangers a child.
